Hooray! I am so excited to announce that I am now a contributor and affiliate for Therm O Web!

If you haven’t heard of Therm O Web before, you should check them out! They are the creators of HeatnBond, FabricFuse, StitchnSew, as well as a plethora of other genius products. I recently received a big box of goodies from them and I’m excited to start experimenting with all their awesome products and share about it with you!

Most of my sewing is typically for myself, so when I was invited through Therm O Web to participate in the One Million Pillowcase Challenge by American Patchwork and Quilting, I jumped at the chance!

The One Million Pillowcase Challenge has a goal to donate 1 million handmade pillowcases to charities. They are currently at the half way mark! How cool is that!?

Recently, there was a contest to choose your favorite All People Quilt pillowcase pattern and this train pattern was chosen.

All People Quilt then challenged us to use the pattern to create our own pillowcases. Here’s what I came up with.

The train pillow case pattern is so darn cute but it is definitely more for the boys. Since I wanted to make a pillow case that was for a girl, I challenged myself to use the pattern to find some girly inspiration. My jumping off point was the 1 1/4 inch circle shape from the train pattern.

I thought a scalloped band would be such a fun decorative accent for a ‘bright like the sun’ yellow ombre dot pillow case. The circle included in the pattern is 1 1/4 inches, so to allot for seam allowance and to make it a little easier to sew, I increased the circle diameter to 2 1/4 inches. To create the scalloped band, I just traced a line of half circles in a row on my white fabric (folded right sides together). I then cut the scalloped edge out, stitched the two pieces of fabric right sides together and clipped the curves to help the seams lie flat. I then turned the band right side out and pressed!

I used the following fabrics, all purchased at Fabric Bliss, to make this pillowcase:

I’m going to be dropping this pillowcase off at a local Denver charity this week!
