I absolutely love sewing indie patterns! The styles are fashionable, the instructions are always great, and it supports small businesses! So it’s no surprise that when Rachael from Imagine Gnats and Jill from Made with Moxie partnered up to create Perfect Pattern Parcel, I was excited. The Perfect Pattern Parcel is a curated collection of 5 PDF sewing patterns where you get to name your own price for the bundle with a portion of the proceeds go to Donors Choose! It’s like a win/win/win situation!
I really like all the patterns that came in the Perfect Pattern Parcel #1, but I’m a sucker for a loose fitting knit top, so I decided to make the Summer Concert Tee by Dixie DIY. I’m really pleased with how it turned out and I definitely see myself wearing this top a lot during the spring and summer.
The top was a straight forward sew and came together pretty quickly. I sewed the extra small size and since my bust measurement is 2 inches smaller than that size, I ended up taking it in an extra inch at the side seams. I also modified the hemline a bit by lengthening the front by about 2 inches (I started with the extra large size length to begin with) and shortening the back (from the extra small size) by about 2 inches so that the high-low hem wasn’t quite so pronounced and so my belly would be covered. I do like the midriff style for spring, but unfortunately it’s not the most flattering style on me. Also, I added an additional inch to the neckband length.
This striped knit fabric came from deep within my fabric stash, but I’m pretty sure it came from Colorado Fabrics. I’ve been on a roll with that store lately (as seen here, here, and here). It’s a super soft, light weight knit and will be perfect on hot summer days. I really like how this top looks in a stripe with the drop sleeve style. I think it really makes the fun sleeve design stand out.
