This past weekend, we were in gorgeous Naples, Florida visiting Andy’s grandparents. It was so much fun to spend quality time with them and to soak up the sun on the golf course and the beach! We had beautiful weather and an amazing time! Last week, after I shared what was sitting on my sewing table, I squeaked out the Sew Caroline Patterns Tank Dress in a knit just in time for our trip.
After making my last tank dress, I knew that it would be amazing in a knit, so I picked up a fun striped double knit from Fancy Tiger, a local Denver fabric store. Since I was using a knit this time around, I cut the extra small size instead of the small size. I found that sizing down when working with a knit fabric on a woven pattern makes for a better fit for me. Other than sizing down and shortening the length, I didn’t make any changes to the pattern.
I really wanted the stripes to line up on this dress so I took the extra time to baste stitch my side seams and it was so perfect! However, somehow when I sent it through the serger, the stripes got off! It’s always the case that when I try to match a pattern, it doesn’t work well. But when I barely try, it matches beautifully! Does that ever happen to you too? Any tips?
Even though my stripes aren’t matched perfectly, I’m still really happy with how my dress turned out. The Tank Dress is such a great, simple pattern for summer and makes a beautiful dress. In fact, when I wore my dress out to lunch with Grandma Louise and about 10 other wonderful ladies, I got lots of compliments on it. I think it’s just so much fun getting to say ‘Thanks, I made it!’ in response to a compliment!
