I typically think of a jumper as what I wore to parochial school for the better part of 7 years. Plaid. Pleated. Worn with a white, short sleeved button up. You know, the complete opposite of stylish. But, the Named Clothing Magena Fringe Jumper is definitely not that. It’s actually a cute, cozy sweatshirt! Oh those tricky British words.
For the Magena Fringe Jumper, I cut the size 6 and added an extra inch to the length. In retrospect, I think I should have added 3 inches to the length because this top has a tendency to creep up on me. Maybe it has something to do with the waistband… or the fact that I tend to gesture wildly with my hands when I talk…
For the main fabric, I used this Heather Gray Solid Cotton Spandex Knit Fabric from Girl Charlee. It’s such a great weight and has washed up really nicely the handful of times I’ve washed this top since making it a couple weeks ago. Originally, I used this Natural White Solid Jersey Rayon Spandex Knit Fabric for the yoke, but I also added in some contrast piping between the yoke and front and it was not good (I could have sworn I took a picture, but alas…). I love the idea of it, but my execution was awkward and lopsided. The last thing I need is lopsided chest detailing. So, I chopped the yoke off the top, seam ripped the piping, and went to plan B which was a mystery black textured knit blend from my stash… and I really like how it turned out!!
One thing that caught me off guard is that one of the pattern pieces (the yoke) was overlaid across other pattern pieces. I assume this is to save paper? Luckily, I had a roll of tracing paper on hand and I was able to trace the yoke and cut the rest of the pieces, so it wasn’t a big deal. But, I figured that was worth mentioning because I haven’t come across that before.
Overall, this was a pretty quick sew (besides my whole piping issue). I assembled it almost completely on my serger in just an afternoon. I love instant gratification projects like that! 🙂 What’s your favorite quick sew project or pattern?
