If you are looking for me this summer, you’ll find me hanging out in these harem pants listening to MC Hammer on repeat. Oh-oh oh oh oh-oh-oh, can’t touch this! Although, I recently realized at Quilt Market that I am far too handsy with touching fabric on other people’s clothes. Maybe it’s because I sew… maybe it’s because I lack proper social boundaries when I drink caffeine… 😉

Anyways, I made the Pattern Emporium Harem Pants and the Noodlehead Poolside Tote from the Indiesew Summer Collection and they are awesome!

For my pants, I picked the slimline fit, baggy pocket, and basic harem pant ankle finish. My hip measurements (37ish inches) put me in the AU size 10 so I initially cut and sewed that size. I definitely could have sized down to the AU size 8 as I ended up taking them in a bit- probably about an inch near the ankles to 2 inches at the thighs on each side. I also shortened them by 2 inches (I’m 5’3).

For fabric I used the Heather Bailey Momentum Rayon Challis and it’s so soft. I’m really hoping it doesn’t pill like most of the rayons I’ve used lately because I’m planning on wearing these all the time. Lounge pants, PJ pants, dressy pants… these are the swiss army knife of pants, people!

I was actually really surprised how quickly the Poolside Tote came together. After my intense Super Tote, I was prepared for a longer project. But this bad boy whipped up in only a few hours and came together without any issues. I love it when that happens!

For my fabric, the exterior of the bag is Tommy Bahama Swaying Palms Indoor/Outdoor Fabric, the pink accent fabric is Premier Prints Indoor/Outdoor Fabric, and the lining is Moda Nomad Aztec quilting cotton. Since I used indoor/outdoor upholstery fabric for this bag, I foolishly skipped interfacing. I wish I had used some so it would stand up on it’s own a bit more, but it’s okay because this bag is still rockin. I mean, I’m pretty obsessed with the palm leaf fabric. Andy calls it the ‘Naples Special’. I call it fabulous. Either way, it’s my favorite fabric right now and I’m trying to figure out how to incorporate it into every room in our home.
