It seems very old Hollywood glam to put on a luxurious bathrobe and spend time meticulously perfecting ones hair and cat-eye makeup while uttering words like “daaaarling” and sipping some sort of cocktail before noon. My reality is more one of throwing on a bathrobe after a quick 5 minute shower in which I may or may not wash my hair and tossing minimal makeup at my face as I try to rush out the door. But, to make those frantic mornings a little more glamourous, I created a free one-size-fits-most drop sleeve bathrobe sewing pattern and tutorial. And it makes me feel fancy!
Last year, I filmed an episode for Sew It All TV where I shared the tutorial for this bathrobe and it’s airing here in Denver on PBS soon! Check out your local TV guide listing for Sew It All episode 906, Bathrobe Beauty, to see me demonstrate how to make this one-size-fits-most drop sleeve bathrobe. If you are Denver based, it’s airing on PBS December 9th at 11:30am!
The show was a lot of fun to tape and the folks at Sew It All were so nice to work with. By some miracle, we taped my episode in the first take. Beginners luck! 🙂 They also recently published the tutorial in the Nov/Dec 2015 issue of Creative Machine Embroidery and I definitely geeked out over seeing my name in print for the first time!
I designed this bathrobe sewing pattern to be able to be made in a woven or light to medium weight knit fabric. Try it in a voile, rayon, double gauze, lightweight jersey, or double knit. In the TV episode, I demonstrate with a purple interlock knit fabric, but this pink floral one is a soft and drapey rayon that I found at Joann’s ages ago and it’s my favorite. Definitely feels glamorous!
Want to make one too?! Just download the pattern here and check out the full tutorial either on Season 9 Episode 6 of Sew It All (individual episode available here), on Sew It All’s website here, or the Nov/Dec 2015 issue of Creative Machine Embroidery.
